Before my most recent pregnancy I had really gotten myself into fighting shape, actually participating in two CrossFit competitions. And I didn’t finish dead last – there was always one person just a little bit worse! A huge triumph in my book! So if I ever get back out of the novice league I will be looking for some new places to play.
Liberty Box League, the first ever competition league for CrossFit athletes in the Philadelphia area, will be holding its Fall 2013 League Championship on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Spooky Nook Sports Facility in Manheim, Pa. The League’s inaugural Championship match boasts twelve teams from across the region, competing in an elimination-style tournament as they battle to prove their athleticism. The event will also feature a cash prize for a weightlifting challenge among some of the region’s fittest athletes and against Word’s Strongest Man finalist, Mike Jenkins.
In addition to the competition, spectators will enjoy fitness-focused shopping, food and beverages, and kid-friendly activities with optional paid childcare services. Tickets cost $15 online at www.libertyboxleague.com/championship or $20 at the door.
Liberty Box League founder Cassie Haynes started Trap Door Athletics in order to give athletes opportunities to grow, compete, learn, and play – outside of their regular fitness routine and facility. Trap Door brought [G] Wis Concepts on board to round out the creative department and management team of the League; the two companies now work in tandem to provide developmental and elite athletes opportunities for competition outside of the gym.
The inaugural five-week season included thirty teams representing fifteen boxes divided into three conferences. The teams are comprised of six athletes who battled for a spot at the League Championships, and ultimately the Liberty Cup and the title of Fittest Team in the League. The League has plans for aggressive expansion for the 2014 Spring and Fall seasons, both locally and nationwide. Learn more at libertyboxleague.com.
