Running Update – Faster Than a Speeding Bullet

It’s hard to believe how quickly my running challenge took off. A little over a month ago I was excited about 3-minute-sprints, and now I regularly run more than two mile stretches through the city!

I didn’t exactly follow the Couch to 5K plan to the letter – I sort of let my body guide me into longer stretches of running. I found that I was significantly faster and more motivated running outside, and quickly became one of those people jogging in place at stoplights.

My goal has been 5K, but I’ve been sort of stuck at just under 2.5 miles for a while now. It’s sort of silly because it would only take another few blocks to achieve my goal, but I just can’t seem to work up the stamina, especially now that it’s getting so cold out.

But, on the plus side, I run far faster than I ever imagined, regularly clocking around a 9 minute mile. That is just some crazy Flo-Jo stuff if you ask me!

As snow starts to fall and my treadmill lends itself more to power-walks-while-reading-magazines than long distance runs, I may not reach my ultimate goal until next spring. But it’s still pretty darn remarkable for someone who could barely catch her breath after a steep flight of stairs.
