Can Greenies Use Microwaves?

As someone who does a lot of defrosting and oatmeal-making, I tend to use my microwave a couple times a day. Even though most of my food is home-cooked, I love to freeze things in batches to nuke in a pinch. But a friend recently told me some alarming information about microwaves, and as a green and healthy advocate I thought I should look into this more.

Here is some of what the information she shared said:

It has been known for some years that the problem with microwaved anything is not the radiation people used to worry about, it’s how it corrupts the DNA in the food so the body can not recognize it. Microwaves don’t work different ways on different substances. Whatever you put into the microwave suffers the same destructive process. Microwaves agitate the molecules to move faster and faster. This movement causes friction which denatures the original make-up of the substance. It results in destroyed vitamins, minerals, proteins and generates the new stuff called radiolytic compounds, things that are not found in nature.

I put the question of microwaves to some of my green blogger friends and most of them barely use microwaves. With that in mind, I bought a tea kettle for my morning green tea. But I still can’t bring myself to slow boil milk for my oatmeal. What do you think?
